Brush up your painting skills this January by joining a short course held over three consecutive Sundays, led by experienced Art & Design teacher Kathleen Cowie.
The venue will be the first-floor studio @
NORTHERN ARTS CLUB, 8 Bon Accord Square, Aberdeen, AB11 6DJ
10.30am until 4.30 pm, lunchbreak from 12.30 until 1.30pm.
A ‘possible’ approach to creating a still life will be the emphasis of this short course, but personal style and choices are actively encouraged.
Inspiration will come from direct observation of still life forms - natural and man-made - these will be provided.
Tuition will be split into three areas over the three days:

Drawing and composition; shape, and form

Creating contrasts; tonal range and pattern

Surface, collage and paint handling; media handling and colour.
By the end of the course, you will have created several studies and a finished canvas.
Core materials you will need:

A3 sketchbook [min 300gms/140lb cartridge].

Charcoal, water-soluble graphite pencil, soft B grade sketching pencil

Set of acrylic paints mid-range are fine, e.g., System 3, Pebeo.

A few different sized acrylic paint brushes.

A primed canvas or board around 40cms x 40cms or a rectangle format of similar size.

Masking tape and water jar.
Additional materials if you have them: can include some favourite items of your own, such as a variety of papers/tissue for collage [not shiny] and soft pastels.
Some supplementary materials will be available at the venue.
Cost for the three day course is £150
